Analysis of a relevant news Package/Live news item

Image
To get a better understanding of how news packages are structured and what makes them unique I have decided to have a look at a BBC News post from the 4th of October where they go in-depth on the global outage as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp go offline. I thought this would be an appropriate piece to look at as it has a similar age range to what I and my group are looking into.  This very news package is about the recent outage of social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, this was in the news as it was one of longes outages that these social media had and due to that Facebook share prices have plummeted by 5% causing them to lose millions. The news piece starts with the camera panning towards the left of the presenters as he gives a quick insight into the situation. the camera movement was a good way to ease the audience into what is about to happen next and make sure their whole focus is on the next part which is the full coverage of the outage by Collette Smith....

Analysis of an entire news programme

Looking into news programmes one that caught my eyes was Newsround because of its bright and colourful standout appearance. whilst looking into Newsround I have realised that they are also a very similar age range that we are trying to go for. News round is very much kid-oriented which means they will not talk about very hard-hitting topics and if they do they will find a way of reporting it that is acceptable for the younger generation. This is very interesting as our group wanted to stay away from hard-hitting topics as it would not be appropriate or even possible to report them in the style that we have settled on which would include jokes that would appeal to a mass audience.  I have also decided to research other logos and branding so I would be able to get some inspiration for creating a logo as I was the graphic designer in the group. as I was going thru the internet there were a few logos that have caught my eye however they would not work well with our style. I decided the...

Panasonic 4k  dvx 200 Fergus DVX 200 workshops were really helpful as they showed us how to use the new camera with ease and also showed how using the camera the right way may make our lives easier. the camera has advanced optical image stabilisation which will allow us to have a very smooth shake-free video. Ferg has shown how to use the in-camera focus assist which will assure we have the best focus that we can get each time without fail. We were shown how useful 4k video is even if you down want the outcome to be in 4k. The 4k format gives the editors a lot more freedom when editing the final results as it allows you to crop the video to 1080 without losing much in the process. this allows you to make beautiful tracking shots without having to move the camera at all. if the footage is too shaky you can fix it in after effects without losing any quality because in. Knowing these things will be extremely useful not just during university but also outside of uni. Because of this wo...

Project evaluation

For the news unit, we were given the task of creating a 5-minute news video which consisted of a 2:30min news package and a 2min live ob report. We also had to create a website and an Instagram page which we could use to promote our news piece. This unit has been a very interesting experience as it has given me a chance to do things that I haven't tried before. Even tho we have come across some challenges during the process the outcome has come out better than I have expected.  During the first week of the unit we got put into groups of 4 where we got tasked with coming up with a news package idea news after some time brainstorming we decided we wanted our news piece to be quite different, we decided that we wanted to use some sort comedy for our idea, however, because of this, it left us with very limited choices what we can film because otherwise, it would just be inappropriate if we chose harder-hitting subject. As a group we were looking on different news platforms such ...

Content research

Coming up with our initial idea was hard because the style we wanted to shoot ours news package in was not appropriate for most of the news subjects that are usually reported on. Because we wanted to interpret comedy into our project we had to be careful in what we selected which left us with a very limited amount of Stories that we can do. We sat as a group and looked at what is reported and what we could do with those subjects however most of them were out of the question. to do that we were all on different platforms where news is reported for example apple news, the guardian, and even news on Instagram after searching for a while if found an article about a new tipping law that is coming into play in the coming months which was good however the thing that made this idea even more solid was the recently released pictures of receipts from the salt be a restraint where everything was overpriced, as I looked into it I have found out he has recently lost a lawsuit because he was not giv...
