Analysis of a relevant news Package/Live news item

To get a better understanding of how news packages are structured and what makes them unique I have decided to have a look at a BBC News post from the 4th of October where they go in-depth on the global outage as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp go offline. I thought this would be an appropriate piece to look at as it has a similar age range to what I and my group are looking into.

This very news package is about the recent outage of social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, this was in the news as it was one of longes outages that these social media had and due to that Facebook share prices have plummeted by 5% causing them to lose millions. The news piece starts with the camera panning towards the left of the presenters as he gives a quick insight into the situation. the camera movement was a good way to ease the audience into what is about to happen next and make sure their whole focus is on the next part which is the full coverage of the outage by Collette Smith.
We then cut fo a few overlapping images of which are the tweets of the company's that are currently offline this shows the audience that these companies are very well aware of what is currently happening and they are trying to resolve the issue. I believe that this is a very good way to show pieces of information to the audience and I will look into it and see if it can be interpreted in some way or another towards our news project. We also are shown clips of Facebook, not opening which shows that the issue is still ongoing.
Afterwards, it cuts to an interview with Alice enders who is a director of research where she shares her professional opinions on what Alice thinks is going on. I believe that it is important to get someone with higher status to comment on situations rather than a random person because most people would rather listen and most likely take in what she says. I think that for our project something like this would be useful for example someone who has worked in a restaurant and has had to deal with unfair tipping situations same goes for the fuel crisis peace, it would be useful to get to interview someone who maybe is a driver and has had does deal with the long queues and a lack of petrol or even petrol station workers who see first hand how bad the situation is.
Then we cut to the Vox pop part of the news piece where we hear different opinions or ordinary people and what they think about the social media being offline and during that we hear a wide range of opinions such as some being unhappy that they have to go back to using normal texting apps and some even happy that is happening they believe that it is for the better, and for some is more than just a little inconvenience as the only way for them to contact their parents who are in a different country was thru these platforms.
vox pops are a great way to hear people opinions first hand and I believe that it would be really helpful towards our outcome so it's something that we can look into especially for the fuel crisis because everyone will certainly have very different opinions.
the first part of the news piece was very helpful as it gave me a few ideas on what could work moving towards shooting week things such as vox pops and the visual messages on the screen, these little things could uplift our work and is something worth looking into.

The next part of the news piece is the live ob report by Michelle Fleury who is the North America business correspondent.
The live ob part is quite simple it is just a ton of information that is relevant Michelle talks about how social media has been shut down before but this time it is the worst it had ever been which has affected billions of people worldwide, she also talks about how the actual company has been affected and how the company cares more on profits than the health and safety of teens that do use those platforms, it is said that Facebook has a bad influence as a whole.
Live ob report is very important however I believe that more Ould be added, things live Vox pops during the live ob as it would make it more interactive and make it easier to follow and get the information thru.

This was a very good piece to watch and analyse as it has shown me a wider range of techniques that could potentially be used to improve our work. It has also helped me realise what shots and camera movements look good which could also be used towards the outcome.
