Short film review "Identity" by K.J. Adames





 In this review I will be going over K.J. Adames short film "Identity" which Is about about living in a society where everyone hides their true identity using masks.



in the first scene of the film we are introduced to the main character which is the girl. we see her looking back at herself in the mirror and looking happy and proud. however that goes away quickly as everything starts going back in reverse and we see her emotions fade. this was a way to intrigues the audience on what's to come later. this was very interesting because for me as a viewer as it puts me in a weird uncomfortable feeling which intrigues me on what's to come.



as the reverse finishes at 1:10 we now see the same girl in her school canteen but now she is wearing a mask and so is everyone else around her. As we cut to her we can see that she is very uncomfortable and unsociable as she chooses to sit on her own. from that scene we can also see that she is very different from everyone else as she is the only one with that mask on.



at 1:17 we cut to her sitting in the classroom with every other student. in this scene we can clearly see what K.J. Adames is trying to show, he shows that every single student in the school is not their true self as everyone is wearing a mask even in the learning environment, however the teacher is the only person that does not have a mask on. He does not need a mask as he has nothing to lie about nor he is there to socialise, the teacher is only there to teach he has no need for a mask.



During the hallway scene at 2:05 we get introduced to a lot of different characters, one that stuck out the most was the girl that's switched her mask as she went to talk to a mother friend group, this further shows how much people try to fit in in school environment. As I watch this it makes me feel quite sad as It shows that people cannot be themselves to fit in.



At 3:05 it is lunch again and something in the girls min changes, she rushes to the toilet and ends up falling over, but now we can see her mask starting to break and she finally decides to be herself. She takes it off and we get to see the the same smile as at the start of the movie, the same smile she was hiding all along. 


This was A very interesting watch. it made it uncomfortable to he how quickly people can change in certain situations, and how everyone hides their true self. what I got from the film is that be yourself and you will be happy.

Mood boards  When studying William Wordsworth's composition on Westminster Bridge, I decided to concentrate on two lines of the people, one of which is "The beauty of the morning; silent, bare." For this part, I've decided to take it literally and capture the sunrise of a beautiful morning, but I'm still undecided about the location I'd like to use for my shoot; however, the images above are what I was thinking of going for. I had the idea of the sun and the moon meeting in some way to tie the two very different ideas together. Final evaluation directions

 The directions unit I thought was very interesting. there has been a lot of things that I have learnt and tons of skills I have improved on. I have learnt how to storyboard, work with different lighting, I found out different things a director has to focus on that I had no clue previously. I enjoyed doing the storyboard as it was a way of getting my ideas on paper. another part I thought was really helpful was the workshops as they're not just for the directions unit, the skills I have learned for example the lighting can be incorporated into almost any other unit and it is just a big part of the film in general.    one downside of the unit was the fact that we were in lockdown so it was quite hard to focus and just get things done during the period, this also got us away from the filming part which would have been very interesting just to see the outcome and the difference between the scene you chose and the final outcome.
