Workshop films/output/test shoots
Panasonic 4k dvx 200
Fergus DVX 200 workshops were really helpful as they showed us how to use the new camera with ease and also showed how using the camera the right way may make our lives easier. the camera has advanced optical image stabilisation which will allow us to have a very smooth shake-free video. Ferg has shown how to use the in-camera focus assist which will assure we have the best focus that we can get each time without fail. We were shown how useful 4k video is even if you down want the outcome to be in 4k. The 4k format gives the editors a lot more freedom when editing the final results as it allows you to crop the video to 1080 without losing much in the process. this allows you to make beautiful tracking shots without having to move the camera at all. if the footage is too shaky you can fix it in after effects without losing any quality because in. Knowing these things will be extremely useful not just during university but also outside of uni. Because of this workshop we will save a lot of time when shooting as we now now exactly what to and what not to do.
Green screen workshops
during the green screen workshop, we had the chance to go into the green room and test out the camera in the studio. during the workshop, Ferg showed us several things on how we could improve our productions with things such as the lighting in the green room, how to avoid shadows, how to use a backlight to sharpen the edges of your subject. a good way to get rid of some of the green reflections of the subject was to have them stand further away from the wall. we got taught how to white balance correctly on the new cameras and how to focus assist helps the outcome. At the workshop, we used an iPad with a teleprompter which will be extremely useful when we are shooting our final production. After the workshop, we had a chance to shoot a test video in the green room in our groups so using the thing we have learned from the workshop such as the lighting, white balance and focus. This allowed us to shoot a perfect green screen video where there was very little effort needed to edit in after effects.
After effects workshop
In the after effects work shop Ferg has showed us how to do 2 different things one being the keying of the green screen and the other was some graphic design.
During the keying of the green screen we used footage of the green screen shoot from our group and whilst trying to edit it out Ferg gave us a harder one because he said that our one was to easy to edit. so he sent us a one that was shoot outside with uneven lighting which was more challenging to do.
after the green screen edit Fergus has also showed us how to use after effects mo make moving logos/graphics this was a very useful part because I was doing the graphic design for my group.
