Test shoots


in the video, above we went out with the intention to shoot a few b rolls using our own equipment for the documentary that we would be filming around a week later, however, the shots that we have made were not really relevant to the story we were trying to tell. However, it was not a waste as it has given us a chance to test out the equipment that would be used for the documentary and to make sure everything was working perfectly and would be working for the day of the shoot. This has saved a lot of time as it cut out the process of setting up the camera and having to make sure both the gimbal and the camera setting were set correctly. 


On the day of the shoots both for Charlie and praying mantis the camera op (Glenn) started rolling just to make sure that the equipment was fully working, different things such as sound, video, lighting and that the framing was perfect so there would be nothing interfering with the shoots. This was a vital step to make that the shoot run smoothly as if something was not working we would only figure that out after the shoot which would have caused a lot of trouble making us have to reshoot the whole interview. As the Charlie interview was shot in the studios there have been a few Interferences as people sometimes walk past and test fire alarms do go off once in a while. However, that is not as bad as what could happen if it wasn't made sure that everything worked with the test shoot.

 In this review I will be going over K.J. Adames short film "Identity" which Is about about living in a society where everyone hides their true identity using masks. in the first scene of the film we are introduced to the main character which is the girl. we see her looking back at herself in the mirror and looking happy and proud. however that goes away quickly as everything starts going back in reverse and we see her emotions fade. this was a way to intrigues the audience on what's to come later. this was very interesting because for me as a viewer as it puts me in a weird uncomfortable feeling which intrigues me on what's to come. as the reverse finishes at 1:10 we now see the same girl in her school canteen but now she is wearing a mask and so is everyone else around her. Mood boards  When studying William Wordsworth's composition on Westminster Bridge, I decided to concentrate on two lines of the people, one of which is "The beauty of the morning; silent, bare." For this part, I've decided to take it literally and capture the sunrise of a beautiful morning, but I'm still undecided about the location I'd like to use for my shoot; however, the images above are what I was thinking of going for. I had the idea of the sun and the moon meeting in some way to tie the two very different ideas together. One way the two could be linked is through a flickering light, the idea of a lightbulb flickering and exploding or shutting off, and the entire mood of the adaptation changing and turning into a type of horror. The second line that I wanted to highlight was "The very houses seem asleep," since it reminded me of abandoned houses, which have a horror connotation. Final evaluation directions

 The directions unit I thought was very interesting. there has been a lot of things that I have learnt and tons of skills I have improved on. I have learnt how to storyboard, work with different lighting, I found out different things a director has to focus on that I had no clue previously. I enjoyed doing the storyboard as it was a way of getting my ideas on paper. another part I thought was really helpful was the workshops as they're not just for the directions unit, the skills I have learned for example the lighting can be incorporated into almost any other unit and it is just a big part of the film in general.    one downside of the unit was the fact that we were in lockdown so it was quite hard to focus and just get things done during the period, this also got us away from the filming part which would have been very interesting just to see the outcome and the difference between the scene you chose and the final outcome.
