RE-ENTRY short film review
RE-ENTRY by BEN BRAND
In the first scene of the film, all we see is the tops of the trees as is we were laying flat on the floor which gives a sense of mystery. what adds to that scene is the enhanced bird noises and the wind blowing which is a very big part throughout the whole film.
at 0:37 we see a man lying on the floor which with that we also see a picture of a dead man for a glimpse second which makes me as the viewer very intrigued.
at 1:01 we see the same man from the first scene staring into a crashed car. the scene nicely set up with a medium close-up shot of the guys back as he stares into the car in shock, we also hear a voice-over conversation with god.
at 1:43 the guy is staring at this own dead body which further shows us that the has passed away. as he stares into his own body we see him have flashbacks of what appears to be his family. this shows the audience that he a decent person. this if further show by him saying "my kids, my wife, what about them? will they be alright?"
at 3:11 we are shown short clips of people in different races doing different things, in the conversation between God and the guy that passed away god tells him that in his mind he has the memories of all of the past lives he had which infers that the shots we are seeing are the past lives.
4:03 we see the guy right before the crash, as the crash happens he has flashbacks of peoples lives he has never met which proves that he had lived all of those lives previously.
6:02 we continue to see different peoples lives. And the conversation continues things certain things start to get told which causes everything to start making sense.
6:12 the God says there is no one else, in this universe, it is just you and me. As this gets said the music changes, we start to see all of the different reincarnations starring right at us which suggests that this is the life we are living.
7:26 in the conversation god says "every time you victimized someone you were victimizing yourself and every act of kindness you've done you have done to yourself".
The final scene end at 8:21 with us hearing the mans final breaths. this enhances the whole scene.
to summarise, the short film was great, the combination of the cinematic shots, intense music, sound effects and the voice-overs. the whole film was very intense from start to finish. whilst watching the film I felt like it was directed toward the audience and sort of like as a message for us to be better because everything that you do to others you are doing to yourself.
